The FourDocs Mediabox Competition
Aged between 13 and 19 years old and want to make a FourDoc? Or know someone who is and who does? You/they could win £500 to make it over the summer!
Tell us what you want to make a doc about...
FourDocs and Mediabox are inviting young people between the ages of 13 and 19 to think up an idea for a short documentary about something they care about, and win ?500 to make it!
How?
As part of the My Mediabox fund, we want you to write 200 words about what you would make a documentary of under 5 minutes on if you won the money. Then, submit it on the Mediabox website - and the best 10 will each win £500 to make it over the summer holiday.
and then...
First, you'll be invited to come to a workshop in Channel 4's headquarters in London, where filmmaking experts will get you going on making your documentary. Then you get the £500 and go and make it! The winning 10 will all be shown on the FourDocs website, with one overall winner then being broadcast on Channel 4 itself later in the year.
Eligibility...
There's a few criteria you need to check you pass on before you enter this competition. Basically, we're particularly interested to hear from you if you aren't able to find places to go and things to do in your local area, or if you feel that you wouldn't normally get the chance to do something like this.
Don't worry if you're not sure if you qualify. Go to the FourDocs/Mediabox page and see more info.
What to make your documentary about...
Your idea for a documentary can be about absolutely anything, but remember that you need to make it fit into the timeslot of between 3 and 5 minutes so you need to keep it limited to a subject you can explore well in this time. Plus to get you thinking, check out all the guides on the Make Docs section on the FourDocs website , which will give you a crash-course in doc-making.
Remember, we want you to think of an idea for a doc that you really care about, really want to make, and think that you could film in a few weeks. Try and think of something unique that you don't think you've ever seen on TV before. Let your imagination run wild, you can make a documentary about anything!
If you need some help...
We'd like to help you develop your ideas, and we can answer any questions you have, so please email us at fourdocs@channel4.com and we'll help. We'll also help you when you're making and editing the fillm too, so don't worry if you're not sure now where you're going to get the equipment to make it from. And definitely don't worry if you've never made a film before!
Deadlines...
The deadline for entries is Monday 16th July so you need to get your application in quick!
You also need to make sure you and a parent, guardian or other adult are available to attend a workshop on Thursday August 9th if you're one of the 10 winners.
If any of these dates are difficult for you, please email us at fourdocs@channel4.com and we'll help.
