Winner of DepicT! ’06 Live Action Award with And the Red Man Went Green

The great thing about DepicT! is that it leaves space for such a wide variety of ways of making short films and realising ideas. I think the best way to make any film regardless of length is to stick to what you love.

Fortunately for me I love moments. I have a particular fondness for small apparently insignificant ones from daily life. This is what first struck me about 'Red Man...' It was an article written by a woman in the New York times that was cut out by my sister in law and sent to my husband. As soon as I saw it I thought it was perfect for a very short film. There was just a beauty in the way the woman experienced that 'collison' with the roller blader and I set out to try to capture that moment - and to try to express the impact it had on her. Daily life is peppered with these moments and I love to wittess them whether in life or on screen. Best of luck to everyone who sets out to make a celluloid gem for depict. Regardless of the type of film you chose to make my advise is to always go with something that makes your heart sing!
